L'Hermitage 2019

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave L'Hermitage 2019 is a monumental Hermitage of 100% Syrah, from the legendary hill of Hermitage in the Northern Rhône. The Chave family has been making wine since 1481 — sixteen generations — and this bottle ranks among the greatest Syrahs in the world. The wine is a masterful assemblage of several top sites (lieux-dits) on the hill, with the granite Les Bessards as its backbone, complemented by L'Ermite, Le Méal, Péléat and Beaumes, among others.

The nose shows intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries and blueberries, interwoven with crushed stone, violets, black pepper, licorice, leather and a hint of smoked bacon. On the palate it is full and impressively concentrated, yet astonishingly pure and precise, with velvety tannins, a deep mineral core and an endless finish. Top critics raved about this vintage: Jeb Dunnuck awarded 98+ points ('flirts with perfection') and Vinous 98 points.
